. It is characterized by accumulation of
SPHINGOMYELINS
in the
cells
of the
MONONUCLEAR PHAGOCYTE SYSTEM
and other cell throughout the body leading to
cell death
. Clinical
signs
include
JAUNDICE
, hepatosplenomegaly, and severe
brain
damage.
